There are days when you don’t want to get out of bed. You want to pull the covers up over your head and stay there, yet you know life is calling you… you’ve got things to do.

Guess what? You are not alone. Studies show that most of us feel tired at least three days a week, and some of us even feel tired every day. In fact, 65% of us rarely wake up feeling like we have energy and more than 40% of us feel tired in the afternoon.

Having no energy is the worst. It impacts every aspect of your life.

As a woman, now in my 60s, I’ve had a few personal energy crisis’s over the years. I remember being in my 40s and not being able to keep my eyes open in the afternoon, wanting a nana nap every day. My body was telling me something, but I didn’t know what it was. But I did know my body was saying “do something”. I started by paying attention to the time of day I felt blah, the activities that left me feeling drained and those that gave me energy, and the impact of my thoughts and the food I was eating, and how I was feeling.

And what I discovered were simple and effective actions you can take that, not only give you energy, but also work and are backed by research.

It’s time to create your high-energy day with 5 Quick Energy Boosting Activities:

#1 Have a Big Drink of Water

Being a little dehydrated can affect you mentally and physically and leave you feeling tired. I’m not talking about drinking copious amounts of water, simply getting into the habit of drinking water in the morning when you wake up to rehydrate your body after you’ve slept. Drinking water in the morning can help increase your energy levels, promote weight loss, improve the quality of your skin and renew cells and help relieve joint pain.

#2 Get Moving

This one is a little counterintuitive. The last thing you want to do is move when you’re feeling tired, but it is actually one of the best things you can do to give yourself an energy boost. You could do a quick 5-minute workout, go for a walk around the house, put on your favourite music and dance or play with your grandkids. The choices are endless. Moving can help boost oxygen circulation in your body, increase your energy and happy hormones, and helps your body use energy more efficiently.

#3 Feel the Sunshine

Head outside and get some outdoor energy. Not only will you feel uplifted and energised, you can also soak up some vitamin D from the sunshine which helps you sleep better at night. When you sleep better, you feel more energised. Getting outdoors also helps boost your immune system, and your activity level and gives you a creative charge.

#4 Slow Down to Power Up

Life can be go, go go, and taking time out to slow down and allow yourself the time and space you need to recharge your energy impacts the whole of you. You could meditate, do some breathwork, stretching or yoga. Research shows that slowing down can super boost your brain function and energy level.

#5 Eat Energy Boosting Food

Some foods can help you feel energised while others leave you feeling blah, drained, and ready for a nap. Be aware of low-quality processed foods and those with lots of sugar. Eat real whole foods, and find the balance between eating too much or too little to find your unique energy balance.

You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel when you add some energy-boosting activities into your life. Not only do these activities give you a greater zest for life, but they also improve your health and well-being.

It’s the small, consistent actions you take every day that have the biggest impact on your life.
